The SOS Children’s Village is a member of Kinderdorf International, an organization that is not affiliated with any political or religious group, and is committed to helping children without a family. The SOS Children’s Village is the organization that pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. Kinderdorf International is based in Innsbruck, Austria. More about SOS-KINDERDORF INTERNATIONAL >> In 1992, after signing an agreement with the Lithuanian Government, SOS KDI Lithuania started its first SOS Children’s Village project in Vilnius on Ozo Street. A village of 12 family homes was built. Today, there are 70 SOS children living in the SOS Children’s Village, and 18 young people living in two SOS Youth Facilities. The children are provided with a home and suitable environment, and take an active part in community life. This enables them to recover and return to their full-fledged social and emotional state. In the SOS Children’s village, children are entrusted to a foster mother, and live together with brothers and sisters, thus building strong emotional ties for a rest of their lives.
